Behind that Window Exhibition

BEHIND THAT WINDOW is an exhibition about the Hong family who lived and worked in a corner shop in Brixton for 56 years.  The exhibition is told through the family’s memories, personal belongings and prosaic objects that they fashioned and adapted to make it their home.  Moreover, it tells the story of an overlooked history about ‘ordinary’ lives and the struggles faced during apartheid and post-apartheid.  The exhibition is located in the place that they lived, and thus resonates with the tropes that memories trigger about place and the meanings of home.
