IN MEMORY OF JACKSON LEONG

In Loving Memory Jackson Leong

TCA deeply mourns the passing of one of its longest serving committee members Mr. Jackson Leong.

Jackson joined the TCA in the mid-1980s, serving first as Chinese secretary and then chairman, and then again as Chinese secretary and Executive Committee Member, until the last few months when he began to suffer ill health.

Jackson was a tireless worker for the Chinese community and will be remembered for his dedication to forging closer South Africa – China relations. He was fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin, and through his linguistic ability was able to assist many community members with their personal and business issues.

In his earlier years on the TCA committee, Jackson was especially helpful on behalf of the community through his dedicated work in regularly translating the TCA newsletter into Chinese, so that older community members could keep abreast of matters of community interest and concern. This was before the days of the Internet and social media blogs. He also played a key role in organising the student tours to Taiwan, especially the Hong Kong portion. Later, he organised many tours to China for older community members.

While serving on the TCA committee, he also served on various other Chinese organisations. His unwavering contribution to the Chinese community will be very sorely missed.
