TCA Hosts Historic 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament and Opening Ceremony of the TCA Basketball Community Court
Johannesburg, July 11, 2026 – The Chinese Association Gauteng (TCA) marked a milestone in community sports today with the grand opening of its new TCA basketball community courts at the Oriental Rivonia Center Rooftop. The occasion was celebrated with the association’s TCA 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, drawing dignitaries, business leaders, and community representatives from across South Africa.
The ceremony began at 10:00 AM with a warm welcome from the Master of Ceremonies, followed by a spectacular Lion Dance performance by the Kai Shing Martial Arts Association.
The Opening Ceremony also featured live renditions of both the South African National Anthem and the National Anthem of the People’s Republic of China, performed by Global Ambassador Eli Zaelo. Speeches from dignitaries emphasized the importance of cultural unity, youth development, and the role of sport in strengthening community ties.
A New Chapter for Community Sports
The newly unveiled rooftop TCA Basketball community courts are designed to host basketball, netball, and volleyball, offering a multi-purpose space for recreation and community engagement. TCA leaders highlighted that this development is part of a broader mission to establish a permanent community center, fostering resilience and unity for future generations.
The day concluded with an exhibition game of Volleyball from club Spike-Roo, a Guest Netball Team and the tip-off of the 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament, with Vice Consul Zhou ceremonially throwing the first ball to launch the tournament.
