The Chinese Association (Gauteng)

TCA AGM & Siew Yee – Sunday 31 August 2025

TCA followed up this year’s Qingming (清明) hang cheng (恒敬) Clan Gathering in April, with another vibrant reunion. 90 clan members came together for Siew Yee (燒衣 ) at YueHua Chinese Restaurant in Rivonia Central Mall, where everyone shared laughter, stories, and a sumptuous nine-course banquet.

The event was not only about remembrance of those gone before us, but also about gratitude and continuity. As part of its AGM, the TCA took the opportunity to proudly reflect on its projects and achievements while expressing heartfelt thanks to the following long-serving committee members:

•Maureen Lok Fat, who has given 18 years of dedicated service and led as Chairperson in the Association’s early years.
•Claudia Acconne, who has dedicated the past 4 years to the Social Responsibility Portfolio.

Their contributions have left a lasting mark on the TCA, and their commitment is deeply appreciated.

A little bit about Siew Yee:

Siew Yee (秋祭) –

燒衣 is a traditional Chinese folk ritual where symbolic paper replicas of worldly goods (including clothes, money, and other items) are burned as an offering to the deceased. It is based on the core Taoist and Buddhist belief that the spirit world coexists with our own, and that the living can provide for the needs of the dead in the afterlife by sending them these items through the transformative act of fire.

The smoke from the fire is seen as a conduit that carries the essence of the burned items from the human realm to the spirit realm.
